February 1, 2018 - Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation Field Day Workshop
Many agricultural operations on Vancouver Island exist within high risk wildfire interface zones. Producers are invited to participate in this hands-on wildfire preparedness and mitigation field day. The half day session will take place at a local Cowichan farm and will utilize the site as an example for participants to understand for their own farm and property.
A wildfire expert, along with other speakers such as emergency management staff, animal handlers and/or producers who have been exposed to wildfire, will cover topics such as: Building and site layouts, livestock areas, water sources, feed, egress points, nearby road access; Likely wildfire behaviour at site, means of fire spread; Steps for preparedness and risk reduction before an emergency; and Options to reduce damage and increase safety during a wildfire emergency. |
